Beginning in 1988 when the VIFF gave out its first "Most Popular Film" prize to Some Girls, the Festival has offered a number of awards, both adjudicated and voted on by you, the audience, to deserving films. These awards are:

NFB Most Popular Canadian Documentary Award

The director of the audience's favourite Canadian documentary receives $2,500 in services from the National Film Board of Canada.

National Film Board’s Most Popular Canadian Documentary Award FIERCE LIGHT: WHEN SPIRIT MEETS ACTION, by Velcrow Ripper won the prize of $2,500 in NFB technical services towards his next film. The prize was presented by Selwyn Jacob, producer, Pacific and Yukon Centre, National Film Board of Canada.
