Snapshot of the 2009 Film & TV Forum
A slate of cinema's top award-winning filmmakers galvanized a sold-out event at VIFF's 24th Annual Film & TV Forum. New Filmmakers' Day, the only event of its kind in Western Canada drew a packed house for such notable guests as Oscar-winning writer/director Charlie Kaufman and award-winning cinematographers Ellen Kuras and Frederick Elmes.
With over 1,200 delegates in attendance, the Forum fulfilled its mandate of providing networking opportunities and market intelligence with flying colors. During the inaugural Storyville Pitching Forum, hosted in collaboration with Knowledge Network, Canadian and international commissioning editors were highly impressed by the quality of projects pitched and there are strong indications that business has been done!
In 2009, the Forum was also delighted to develop a new partnership with DOC BC to host DOC TALK in Vancouver. DOC TALK day provided enhanced networking opportunities for the local documentary community through Speed Dating sessions (124 pitches), the ever-popular Telefilm Canada Tete-a-tete meetings (66 appointments) and Roundtable Discussions with commissioning editors (40 participants).
The buzz of the Forum carried over into an array of glamorour industry soirees, including red carpet events hosted by Brightlight Pictures, Telefilm Canada Reception, Martini Madness hosted by Women in Film and Television plus Industry Hours hosted by MMPIA, First Weekend Club and Knowledge Network.
