Cal Coons

Cal Coons is a Toronto-based writer/director/producer. A graduate of the respected Canadian Film Centre, he has worked in the Canadian film industry for more than 25 years. Cal has served as Showrunner/Executive Producer on several major dramatic television series including the CTV/Fox International drama, The Listener and Murdoch Mysteries for CBC/CITY TV/UKTV/ITV.

Nominated for more than 20 Gemini awards including Best Series, Murdoch Mysteries is an international hit, airing throughout the world. Cal also served as creative consultant and director of the online spinoff series, Murdoch Mysteries: The Curse of the Lost Pharaohs, which was nominated for an International Digital Emmy.

Previously, Cal was co-creator/executive story editor/director of the multiple award-winning series Blue Murder which ran four seasons on Global and was also sold worldwide. Cal garnered a Best Writer Gemini nomination for his work on the show. He has served as executive story editor/director/writer on the award-winning series ReGenesis and has consulted creatively on major dramatic television series such as The Republic of Doyle.

A member of both the Writers and Directors Guilds of Canada, Cal splits his time between Toronto and Peterborough. When he has the chance to relax, you’ll find him playing guitar in his home recording studio.
