NF01 Reinventing Moviemaking
Digital tools are transforming the ways movies are made. Directors
are shooting with multiple cameras and small crews, and working with
actors in new ways to achieve greater levels of authenticity and emotion.
Pre-production, production, and post are becoming interwoven, allowing
films to evolve while they are being made. Fictional stories are being
shot in real environments, sometimes in real time. Filmmakers have
greater control of color and visual style. Peter Broderick of Next
Wave Films will provide an overview of these revolutionary changes,
which he will illustrate with an international selection of clips
from digital features. 9:00 am to 10:45 am

is always paid when you get to the mixing board. This panel of expert
location and post-production sound technicians will let you know what
you can accomplish and afford on a limited budget. 1:30 pm to 3:00

Sequential Art: The Relationship
Between Comic Books and Film
More than a dozen comic book-to-film projects are on the 2001 release
schedule, and nearly five times as many comic book properties are
either optioned or in some stage of development. The relationship
between comics and films is expanding. Our panel of filmmakers examines
this growing relationship, with emphasis on the formula for successful
adaptation, transposing the cinematic elements, and making a film
that both the general public and comic fans will enjoy (no more nipples
on the bat-suit!) 3:05 pm to 4:30 pm
