Online Ticketing Help

Please read these instructions CAREFULLY and COMPLETELY before continuing. Please do not call the Box Office if you have issues with online ticketing unless you have read this page and have a problem not addressed here.

Here's the process for ordering tickets on-line:

  • Click an ADD button on any of the Film Guide pages to add a given show to your Ticket Planner.
The first time you do this, you must complete the Ticket Order Form and SUBMIT it.
  • Keep adding shows that you "might" want to see until finished.
You can review your order anytime by clicking a VIEW PLANNER button.
  • When you are ready to select ticket purchase quantities, click an UPDATE ORDER button. On that page, select the quantities of tickets you want to buy. If you do not want to purchase tickets for a given show, leave or set the quantity as zero.
  • When you are finished, click the SUBMIT button and wait for the system to show you the Ticket Order summary page which will display once our ticketing system has processed your order. Do not click the SUBMIT button twice or you may generate an error and have to start over. The system may take a minute or so to process your order; please be patient.
  • Our ticketing system will send you an Order Confirmation email within 24 hours. Your tickets will be waiting for you at the Will-Call station at the venue of your first screening.

In order to order tickets on-line, you will need to first fill out the Ticket Order Form which will be presented to you the first time you 'ADD' a show to your Ticket Planner. After you SUBMIT that form, you will be able to add shows to your Ticket Planner by clicking ADD buttons on any of the Film Guide pages. You will be able to select the Quantities of tickets you wish to purchase when you UPDATE your Ticket Planner. You must initially provide a valid credit card but you have our assurance that nothing will be charged to your card until you update your Ticket Planner. When you update your Planner, you will be able to select ticket quantites and purchase memberships, and then given a final chance to review your order details — including the total charge — before your order is finalized and your card charged.

You need only provide us with basic information, but if you give us a complete address you will be added to our mailing list and we will from time-to-time send you information about the Festival. You must provide a working email address which will be used to send you a confirmation of your ticket order along with receipt of payment.

If you check the "Add to Mailing List" box, you will be registered for updates about this year's Festival and for news about next year's VIFF. We also ask that you provide a valid telephone number; this is so that we can call you in case of a screening change or show cancellation.

You have our pledge that no information you provide to us will ever be divulged to a third party and that we will only use this information for the purposes we've outlined here. Since you are providing this information to us on a secure web-page your credit-card information is encrypted and protected from prying eyes.

Please also be aware that you must have both Javascript and "cookies" enabled in your browser in order to order tickets on-line. For more information, please see your browser's HELP facility.

You will receive an email Confirmation of your order withing 24 hours of submitting it. Please do not call the Box Office regarding your order until you receive your Confirmation.

You can view your Ticket Planner at any time by clicking on any button. The Update Ticket Planner (i.e. Ticket Order Check-out) and Clear Ticket Planner buttons can be accessed when you view your Ticket Planner.

Your tickets will be waiting for you at the Will-Call Station at the venue of your first screening.

A few other things you should be aware of:

  • We ONLY ACCEPT VISA on this site. Visa is the official credit-card of the Vancouver International Film Festival

  • Since Festival films are unrated, persons under the age of 18 cannot be admitted.

  • You must have a valid 2001 Festival Membership to be able to attend VIFF screenings. Memberships cost $1.00 and can be purchased as part of your ticket order. The membership card must be presented at the theatre along with your ticket or pass for admission.

  • You can purchase a maximum of twenty tickets on an order

  • You cannot submit more than two orders per day

  • You cannot purchase advance tickets to a next-day screening after 7:00pm on the evening before (this is so that we have time to get your tickets to Will-Call). These shows will be flagged by the system as "DoorOnly" as some tickets are always available at the door.

  • Same-day tickets are only available at the theatre

  • The On-line Ticketing system will be unavailable every night for a short period for general maintenance. You will recieve a notice to that effect when you try to update your Ticket Planner. You will be able to update your order a short time later when the system becomes available again.

  • You have two hours to complete your ticket order. If you take longer than that, your order will be deleted from the system (prior to updating).

  • A $2.00 Will-Call Handling charge will automatically be applied to every order processed through this web site. This is the same charge as for Telephone Charge Advance orders.
