2021 Korean Film Festival in Vancouver
Oscar Winner Youn Yuh-jung’s Movie Week
"Youn, a star in Korea making her American feature film debut, is marvelous."
-Los Angeles Times
"...but when Soonja (Youn Yuh Jung) arrives, we instantly love her."
"Critics have consistently singled her out as “a scene stealer,” and much of the emotional weight of the film comes from the turns within her performance. "
The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver in partnership with the Vancouver International Film Festival, Korean Film Council, and the Korean Cultural Centre Canada is proud to present the 3rd annual Korean Film Festival, taking place from July 1-10, 2021 on VIFF Connect.
This has been an outstanding year for the Korean film industry, with Youn Yuh-Jung winning the Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA , and Independent Spirit Award for the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Soon-ja in Minari. To celebrate Youn Yuh-jung’s historic Oscar win for the best supporting actress, the Korean Consulate presents four films that made her the icon she is today: Minari, Actresses, Canola, and The Bacchus Lady.
These four films are a testament to Youn Yuh-jung’s broad and diverse acting range: a spiky grandma in Minari, a caring and loving grandma in Canola, and an elderly prostitute and murderer in The Bacchus Lady.
