With her extroverted partner Chiquita (Margarita Irún) imprisoned for fraud and their assets being sold off to allay debts, the demure Chela (Ana Brun) is forced to commit a minor transgression of her own in order to make ends meet. Starting an unlicensed taxi service for elderly affluent women in Asunción, Paraguay, Chela soon encounters Angy (Ana Ivanova), whose alluring candour regarding her romantic conquests and fiery bearing shake Chela from her stupor. As long dormant passions are stirred within Chela causing her upper-class complacency to begin to crumble, writer-director Marcelo Martinessi effortlessly segues between satire and melancholy as he crafts a stirring tale of late-in-life awakening and empowerment that never fails to surprise.
"This entirely female-driven story is full of gentle wit and playful observations… There are parallels with early Lucrecia Martel, and with Sebastián Lelio’s exploration of older female sexuality, Gloria. The acting throughout is strong, and Brun is terrific. It’s a performance of tragicomic genius that plays out in arched eyebrows and stabbing side-eye swipes at other women."—Wendy Ide, Guardian
