The Rare Event
ALT | Modes
Notable activists, thinkers and artists discuss the theme of ’resistance’ as a roving lens documents an inaugural "forum of ideas," inspired by the late philosopher Jean-François Lyotard. As a proxy for the departed philosopher, a man in a green, full body, lycra leotard casually roams the symposium observing the discussions. Dialing our attentions in and out of their dense conversations, this human-green-screen presence allows worlds to meld and the abstract to be tangible within a digital cosmos designed by artist Peter Burr. The scope of the proceedings are as vast as they are obscure, and sprawl into questions of causality, correlation, systemic expression, and ultimately attempt a focused interpretation of the things that have a great magnitude in and of themselves; the sublime. Dialectical layers, irreverent humour and dimensional cross-pollination culminate in the slow happening of a truly rare event.
