Love and Compassion

ALT | International Shorts

Love and compassion—simple words that have so much impact on our lives and the lives of others as both require you to put aside your own self-interest and relate to another. Sadly, they are two things the world could use a lot more of, and, while not out to solve the global shortages, this program of short films has these two subjects playing major role, directly and indirectly. Love is more than transient passion, desire or affection. The bonds between parent and child or siblings can be as deeply rooted as your own identity, and familial love also brings to mind words like attachment, devotion, responsibility, duty and obligations. These form the core of four of these shorts. Having compassion requires empathy, understanding, respect—it’s far more than just fleeting sympathy. Compassion plays out on personal levels and on a grand scale; it helps define our humanity. At this time in history, when it can seem that the world has lost its heart, there are some moving and affecting examples of compassion on display here.
