Itohime

A Prison in the Light

ALT | International Shorts

A young woman’s poetic exploration of her fractured identity in a digital age, where self-image is transient and malleable, and old grounding points have been lost. This experimental, stream-of-consciousness-lost-in-a-sea-of-data film takes a somewhat different approach to addressing how we are being effected by this modern, digital world from a more personal perspective. Her narration starts to touch on some important ideas and relatable feelings while accompanied by a layered montage of images and a whimsical electro-pop soundtrack. There’s an emotional current pulling the film along as the narrator gets further lost and unmoored from themselves, and the viewer is carried with them, in the rhythms of one moment to the next. Though vague about its overarching thematic purpose Itohime is a thought-provoking experiential trip examining issues of "privacy" and "identity" that we can already see transforming and disappearing from society as a result of the increase in information sharing.
