It’s 1983. HS freshman Kelly is experiencing her first crush, and school Disco Night is coming on Friday - but she has just got braces and they’ve changed everything. Overcome by self-consciousness Kelly is crushed, and it’s up to her BFF to help her discover what’s really important in life. This coming-of-age comedy, which captures all her anxiety and insecurities because of those ugly braces, is full of familiar Irish wit complemented by an excellent 80s soundtrack. The cast is excellent in this fresh look at feeling gross about yourself, and the nastiness, attention grabbing, and inter-grade cliquishness of high school life. A refreshing story about the power and endurance of friendship.
