True North | True North
Returning to her hometown of Niagara Falls, Abby (Sense8’s Tuppence Middleton) holes up in the abandoned motel she’s just inherited from her mother and contends with the return of harrowing repressed memories about an abduction she witnessed as a child. Or was that just another tall tale that this pathological liar dreamt up? Much to the chagrin of her sister (Mindhunter’s Hannah Gross), Abby sets about trying to uncover the truth in a town better known for its shoddy replicas. Indeed, little is as it appears and no one is to be trusted in this brilliant neon-noir from Albert Shin (In Her Place), which delivers an enthralling, unabashedly pulpy mélange of stage magicians, casinos, true-crime podcasters, novelty restaurants, predatory land developers, tourist traps, and legitimate perils.
"Shin’s dark and comical mystery nods to Niagara’s history and lore, from the intriguing dynastic families who run the place to the Carnivalesque showmen who trade in illusion. And Shin puts on a sensational show of his own with a rogue’s gallery of entertainers like David Cronenberg and Marie-Josée Croze…" - Radheyan Simonpillai, NOW
