Rukiya Bernard is an award-winning actress, writer, and director. Originally from Toronto, Bernard is of Kenyan and Jamaican heritage. She wrote the play Yoga For Black Women and the short film El Color Negro (2020). She starred in Netflix/Syfy’s Van Helsing for three seasons, and for which she won at LEO Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also appeared in the TV series Supernatural, Nancy Drew, Travelers, and the film Wonder (2017), among others. She also co-starred in the short film Reel Women Seen, which won the Jury Choice Award in the 2018 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase.
