Impact | Black History Month

Spike Lee is at his spikeist in this true-ish story of an African-American cop, Ron Stallworth (played by John David Washington - Denzel’s boy) who goes undercover to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan in the early 1970s. In need of a partner (for obvious reasons), Stallworth teams with Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver), who handles in person meetings, while Ron impersonates the same racist agitator over the phone. Together they gleefully subvert the KKK’s attempts to spread white supremacist hate through Colorado Springs, and almost incidentally expose just how dumb most racists really are…

"The movie we need right now." Stephanie Zacharek, Time

"[Lee] is not only still on fire but has found a story that allows him to be as excited and involved as he was when it all began." Kenneth Turan, LA Times

"As much a compelling black empowerment story as it is an electrifying commentary on the problems of African-American representation across more than a century of cinema." Peter Debruge, Variety

Nominated for 6 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Co-presented with Hogan's Alley Society
