Accreditation

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: August 24, 2018 
Thank you for your interest in covering the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) on September 27 - October 12, 2018. The accreditation application has 3 SECTIONS (Important Information, Details and Coverage Plan). Please fill out all required fields and submit your application on or before August 24, 2018.  

 

Your accreditation status will be advised in writing via email on or before SEPTEMBER 3, 2018. Once you receive notice of approval for your accreditation, you are considered as an official guest of the festival and will be expected to deliver on your stated coverage plan.  
 

MEDIA

1. VIFF grants a limited number of complimentary media passes for all Journalists who publish or produce content on a regular basis for established media outlets. If you are a freelance journalist, you must be on assignment from a media outlet. Photographers must also be on assignment. Spec photography, portfolio photography, and personal website photography are not valid assignments. 

2. If you are applying for more than one person from your media outlet (journalist, camera, producer, etc.), please note that you must submit individual applications for each member of your team.  

3.  To be considered for media accreditation, the applicant must be directly and actively involved in the coverage of VIFF 2018. Only actively covering, legitimate media will be considered for credentials. If you are a social media influencer, please apply for the Social Media Influencer credential.

Analysts, Market Researchers, Marketing / Advertising firms, Brand Content Producers, Publicists, Consultants, Media Coaches, Educators, Filmmakers, etc. are not included in our definition of media.

SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS

1. VIFF grants a limited number of complimentary passes for all Bloggers and Social Media Influencers who actively publish or produce new multimedia content on a regular basis and have a large reach of unique audiences using digital or social media platforms. 

2. The applicant must have an established history of posting content on social media platforms. Previous postings must be highly visible, respected and widely recognized. Posts must NOT feature items such as profanity, spam, adult-oriented material, and/or other inappropriate activities. 

3. To be considered for accreditation, the applicant must be directly and actively involved in the coverage of VIFF 2018; and must be willing to post about specific films and other festival events, as requested by the Media Office. Only actively covering influencers will be considered for credentials. If you are a Journalist, please apply for the Media credential.

4. Only 1 pass will be granted per influencer. Approval of your application will be based on your social media's engagement, reach, impressions and coverage plan for VIFF 2018.

PUBLICISTS

If you are a Publicist representing a film in the festival and will be actively pitching stories to media leading up to and during the festival, please contact press@viff.org to coordinate efforts with the Media Office and request a guest pass (if attending the festival). 
 

VIFF 2018 Press Conference

The Press Conference will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, 10:00 am at the VIFF Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymour St. Vancouver).  
 
RSVP: Through your Accreditation Application or by emailing press@viff.org with the subject line Press Conference 2018.  
 
Deadline to RSVP: August 30, 2018.

2018 Media Releases



PHOTOS AND VIDEOS

Photos and B-roll will be available to all accredited media by September 5, 2018. Access instructions will be included in your accreditation confirmation email, which will be sent on or before September 3, 2018. 
 
Links to film trailers are available on the VIFF website. If you require video files of specific film trailers (for the purposes of embedding or B-roll), please send a request to press@viff.org . Your request will be assessed by the programming team or film distributors.  
 
If you are not accredited media but still wish to access photos and videos for your coverage, please contact press@viff.org explaining your intent of use for multimedia materials.  

Media Database Additions

If you are applying for accreditation, you will have an opportunity to be added to our media database.  
 
If you are a journalist or social media influencer who will NOT be applying for accreditation but still wish to receive VIFF updates, please fill out this FORM .
