Philippe, an opera composer who is struggling at work to finish a new unforgettable opera, is forced to take in his orphaned niece Simone until a foster family can be found. While Philippe is socially anxious and prefers to live alone, Simone is rebellious, eccentric, she is soon beloved by his friends at the opera house…her best friend is a skunk. Despite their polar opposite personalities, Philippe and Simone quickly discover that they may need each other more than they initially thought.

Mlle Bottine is a new film that pays tribute to Bach et Bottine (1986), a beloved family classic in Quebecois cinema. This is a heartwarming comedy with beautiful cinematography and musicality, resulting in a film that feels timeless. Antoine Bertrand shines as Phillipe, a big-hearted man, haunted by a lost love, and struggling with significant social anxiety, while Marguerite Laurence plays Simone with an unparalleled mischievousness and charisma in a role that is raw, sensitive and particularly mature for her age. With compelling performances by the lead, opera composer and young rebel slowly change each other’s lives for the better. Mlle Bottine is an uplifting, enchanting story about overcoming fears, opening up to others, and believing in second chances.
