Here’s a war story you haven’t heard before — undoubtedly because it’s the story of Black women who signed up to serve. Even at the height of WWII, the 6888 battalion wasn’t taken seriously by the generals — to the mounting frustration of its commander, Major Charity Adams (Kerry Washington). When an assignment finally arrives, at first it seems disappointing, even disrespectful. In truth, it would prove both enormously challenging and impactful. Tyler Perry’s inspirational drama illuminates an overlooked slice of history.
