Love for the same woman tore a sister and brother apart, now in old age they reconnect but is reconciliation possible? A brilliant and original view of the pain and trials faced by couples who came out some sixty odd years ago. This is a beautiful and subtle queer themed film about the disastrous consequences of an unresolved family crisis and the challenge to overcome long-standing differences, but like the elderly characters everything moves slowly. Set in a timeless, rural, village, the buildings and landscape leap to life in all their ageless beauty thanks to masterful cinematography that also finds the hidden elegance and expressiveness of the aged actors’ faces and failing bodies. The director draws stunning yet deeply sensitive performances from the cast to realize her unique vision. These elderly siblings are very set in their ways so it’s a big step to try and put aside years of misunderstanding and resentment, but that is what makes this attempt all the more meaningful.
