When older drag queen is about to go on stage at her cabaret for the last time her estranged son unexpectedly shows up threatening to derail the evening. This is a very condensed character study about person overcoming a checkered past and reestablishing a parent/child relationship despite their flaws. It’s an incredibly unique father-son bonding film that is brought to vibrant life by impeccable production design and masterful costume design that makes every character stand out visually. The film is beautifully made, pulling us into a backstage world and its collection of over-the-top characters where gender identity is rather fluid. The writing and performances, along with the choreography and cinematography, all blend together seamlessly to create this fantasy surreal setting and wonderfully original tale of reconciliation.
