A young woman’s mother, in the hospital seriously ill with cancer, asks her daughter to take her on a trip to the south of France. She reluctantly agrees. Just the Two of Us is a grounded drama about parent-child bonding, grief and letting go. Even though this is a well trodden story, a loved one with a terminal illness and a protagonist who learns to accept the inevitable, it still feels fresh because everything works together so effortlessly. The fantastic performances from the two leads are so organic and assured you feel like you know these people more than you do, as if we have been with them for a feature rather than a short. This is a touching and beautiful film that tugs at the heartstrings and definitely makes you want to call your mum and say you love her.
