“Would you like to hear a story?” From his cozy library inside the walls of a suburban home an intellectual snail tells of his life’s love, loss and change. Beautifully narrated, it gives us a preview of his upcoming autobiography, a story of love lost but never gone. Meanwhile, a bustling city of bugs hidden underneath the floorboards is threatened by an impending fumigation. This combination animation and live action is wonderfully realized, integrating this anthropomorphized snail and the similarities of his experiences to our own so well it sucks us into his world completely.
Lovebugs is a small budget film with a big heart. I spent months crafting 16 hand-built miniature sets for the film, and shot them with techniques I learned from old Hollywood spectacle films. A lot of love and hard work was put into this film — I hope you enjoy!
