Two extraordinary cinematographers refined the look and texture of the quintessential Mexican noir melodramas: Gabriel Figueroa (1907-1997) and Canadian Alex Phillips (1900-1977). Both men photographed more than 200 films across what is known as the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, and are well represented in our series: Another Dawn, Salon Mexico, Victims of Sin, Take Me In Your Arms, and El were all shot by Figueroa. Crepuscolo, La Otra, The Kneeling Goddess, In the Palm of Your Hand and Sensualidad were Phillips’ work.
In this free talk, educator and filmmaker Devan Scott (himself a professional cinematographer) will introduce you to the artistry of these towering talents.
