Georgia O’Keeffe is widely revered as the “Mother of American Modernism” and is one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
Although she’s inextricably linked to her beloved flower paintings, it was O’Keeffe’s realization that art could do more than reproduce nature which transformed her work and inspired a shift towards abstraction, even in the realms of still life studies. Drawing on her recently released correspondence Paul Wagner’s scholarly documentary traces this evolution and the influence of her mentor and eventual husband, the photographer and curator Alfred Stieglitz.
O’Keeffe died in Santa Fe in 1986 at the age of 98.
This feature documentary film features Claire Danes as the voice of Georgia O’Keeffe with narration by Hugh Dancy.
