Greta Thunberg is one of the world’s best-known climate change campaigners. I am Greta tells the personal story of this Swedish teenage climate activist through compelling, never-before-seen footage, in this intimate documentary from Swedish director Nathan Grossman. The film follows Thunberg during the period in which she came to international prominence. She was just 15 years of age when she first made a stand on climate change, and her perseverance caught the attention of governments, the United Nations, and inspired massive student school strikes worldwide. I am Greta follows Greta from the very first day she embarked on her solitary school strike in August 2018, through to September 2019 after sailing the Atlantic Ocean for two weeks to attend the United Nations climate summit. With intimate access, the film also explores the struggles she faces on a personal level as she reconciles being a teenager in the global spotlight.

BC Students may remember the student global strikes in 2019 inspiring millions of students worldwide to walk out of school in the name of climate action. This documentary follows Greta’s story during that time, exploring the young person behind the headlines and her dedication, no matter how challenging, to advocate for change and make sure youth voices are heard.
