North American Premiere
An older couple take a walk to file their divorce papers and on the way reflect on how their lives came to this. A beautifully told story of old age and a deteriorated relationship, yet after a lifetime together there is much pain in the breakup. Fine filmmaking and fantastic performances get us instantly invested with the couple and what their intentions are, capturing their turbulent emotions on this difficult day. Excellent cinematography allows the characters, and the environments they walk through, to shine, where they both feel equally vast and filled with history in every crafted shot that builds on the sense of melancholy present from beginning to end. This is a wonderful mix of inevitability and vulnerability that teases us with lyrical flourishes and brief moments where hope still exists for a different outcome.
