North American Premiere
A woman who has never acted in film before goes for an audition that becomes a test of more than just her acting ability. This is a brilliant, well crafted film about perceptions and manipulations, a rollercoaster ride of misdirection and emotional heft. Featuring consummate storytelling within a single shot, the whole film is shot from the pov of a camera focussed on an actor auditioning for a movie. Everything is completely reliant on the lead actress, also the director, and her performance is completely captivating as this scenario unfolds, blending in two compelling dramatic monologues and a constant building and releasing of tension. For such a simple setup this is powerful storytelling that manipulates our perceptions as masterfully as the woman’s are, leaving us to wonder how much was staged and how much was actually real.
