A young man goes out for sushi dinner with a community policeman who has never had sushi before, but the mystery of their connection takes a while to be revealed. This is a somewhat unusual story of two men from different generations, who have yet to understand and decide what fatherhood means to them. It’s a well-constructed, character-driven narrative with wonderfully unaffected and natural performances by the two leads’, which bolsters the decidedly dramatic conflicts plaguing both of their characters. Despite the unspoken tension, there is an immediate sense of suspense and raised emotional stakes. Sushi is a delightfully deceptive film about missing relationships with some unexpected revelations, just when you think you know where it’s going it takes another surprise turn.
