An Evening With Marc Maron features a screening of Are We Good?, a candid, funny, and deeply personal portrait of the comedian navigating loss with his signature wit. After the film, Marc takes the stage for a live talk and audience Q&A, blending sharp humor with unflinching honesty and no-nonsense insight in a one-of-a-kind event.
About the film:
Affable curmudgeon Marc Maron jokes his way through grief, struggling to make sense of the world and his comedy following the death of his partner, filmmaker Lynn Shelton. Tracing Maron’s life, this candid documentary reflects on his early standup successes and failures, as well as his continued efforts to evolve and stay relevant. Shelton’s presence, and her absence, remains a gravitational force behind it all.
Director Steven Feinartz, a veteran of stand-up specials, captures the same energy as a Maron live-show or episode of his popular podcast WTF through this collection of detours and shaggy dog stories. Maron seamlessly shifts between off-the-cuff jokes and candid vulnerability, ironic anecdotes and sharp social commentary — one moment, he’ll be cracking up at his cats goofing around in his house, the next his grief will bubble up in a bittersweet moment of introspection. A cantankerously poignant, wryly funny cri de coeur from one of the most genuine comedians in the business.
