Brian Chan is a Vancouver-based composer and multi-instrumentalist. He has written music for numerous feature films and TV series and has been nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards, a Juno Award, and eight Leo Awards. Notable credits include Nickelodeon’s Fairly OddParents: A New Wish, Season 2 of Fox’s Alert: Missing Persons Unit, CBC’s Allegiance, and Sony’s Panhandle. He is one half of a composing duo with his brother Caleb.
Prior to writing music for picture, Brian was a recording engineer for CBC Radio where he had the pleasure of capturing some of Canada’s premiere talent and ensembles. He also enjoys collaborating with indie artists in the studio and has been a part of over a hundred albums as an arranger and musician.
Brian sees VIFF as a vital cultural intersection for community building in and around cinema. He is interested in various forms of storytelling and fostering spaces for meaningful dialogue with underrepresented voices.
