Mexico Noir

Mar 26 – Apr 8

Curated by best-selling novelist Silvia Moreno-Garcia (Mexican Gothic), Mexico Noir is an invitation to discover a new shadow world: mid-century melodramas that sound echoes of the American crime films of the 40s and 50s, but with a distinctly Mexican flavour. In these 15 relatively unseen classics, almost all of them screening in new restorations, desperate poverty rubs up against affluence, desire cannot be denied, and the end game is, inevitably, death.

Read Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s essay on Mexican noir films here and join us for a conversation with the novelist after our opening night screening of La Otra, March 26.

Special thanks to programming consultant & coordinator Abraham Castillo Flores, Fundación Televisa, Filmoteca UNAM, Cineteca Nacional, STPC, Claro Video, & Marcela Fernández Violante.
