How to Divorce During the War

This event has passed

Vilnius, 2022. Media exec Marija (Žygimantė Elena Jakštaitė) informs her screenwriter husband Vytas (Marius Repšys) she’s no longer in love with him, she wants out. And the very next day, Russia invades Lithuania’s neighbour, Ukraine. Reeling from these twin shocks, Vytas moves back in with his parents while Marija takes in a family of Ukranian refugees in his stead.

Andrius Blazevicius’ masterful feature (a Sundance prizewinner for Best Director) begins as a domestic drama and evolves into an engrossing satire about virtue signalling, nationalism, good intentions, and our comfort zones in critical times.

Beautifully directed… A drily witty, subtly searing comedy.

Guy Lodge, Variety

Stinging satire… Prepare to relate in a way that will almost assuredly be too close for comfort.
