Adenike (Danie Gurira) and Ayodele (Isaach De Bankolé) are a Nigerian couple living in Brooklyn. Following the joyous celebration of their wedding, complications arise from their inability to conceive a child – a problem that devastates their family, defies cultural expectations, and leads Adenike to make a shocking decision that could either save or destroy her family. Director Andrew Dosumnu captures the nuances of this unique and fascinating culture by creating a beautiful, vibrant, and moving portrait of a couple whose joys and struggles are at once intimate and universal.

Dosunmu creates a colourful bubble of a Nigerian diasporic community in the heart of New York. We’re invited into the lives of Adenike and Ayodele as they navigate newly married life and find a balance between cultural problems and modern solutions.
