Peter Asher: Everywhere Man

This event has passed

Maybe the least remarkable aspect of Peter Asher’s life story is that he inspired Austin Power’s groovy fashion sense. A child actor who would be eclipsed by his sister, Jane, Peter became a close friend of Jane’s boyfriend, Paul McCartney, and wound up running Apple for a spell, but not before he’d become a chart topping pop star in his own right, as one half of Peter and Gordon, and opened a book store and an art gallery (Indica) at the heart of Swinging London. Moving to California, he signed on as manager and producer to James Taylor, then Linda Rondstadt, and wound up on the cover of Rolling Stone with both of them — clutching his Grammy for Producer of the Year. (He’d win another with Robin Williams, of all people.)

This affectionate tribute will serve as a relaxing stroll down memory lane for Boomers, but you may still glean fresh insights into Beatles’ lore, the Troubadour scene in the 1970s, etc etc. He was, if not everywhere, then always in the right places at the right time.

A delightful and thoroughly unlikely progression through one of the most colourful artistic moments in recent history.
