Far From the Tree

Daleko od stromu

World Premiere

A woman and her teen daughter live in a small dead end city where both women are trying to break out of their miserable circumstances. Two troubled souls navigate their respective relationships with men, money, and future prospects in a place where few solutions exist and money problems just exacerbate already difficult relations. This is a gritty film that makes us feel deep empathy for it’s characters, desperate people with few options making bad decisions. It’s beautifully made and the cinematography is quite fresh; artfully painting with colour and light to magnify the contrast of the story’s Eastern European neighbourhoods. Terrific performances capture their internal and external conflicts that will most likely strike a chord as we become immersed in their banal, troubled lives.
