The KLF: 23 Seconds to Eternity

With CHXMERAS (Live AV)

VIFF Live

Book Now Book Now

Trip into the psychedelic world of one of the most enigmatic and iconoclastic electronic bands of the 90s. The KLF became one of the top-selling electronic music acts globally through their subversive acid house anthems, deep lore, and expansive cosmology. Now, for the first time, all of the group’s films and videos (all produced and directed by Bill Butt) have been compiled in the feature-length 23 Seconds to Eternity.

Among its selections, 23 Seconds to Eternity includes the remastered film The White Room (1989), an “ambient road movie” following an American police car named Ford Timelord, Jimmy Cauty (Rockman Rock), and Bill Drummond (King Boy D) on a wild cross-country journey. Also included are a newly restored version of The Rites of Mu (1991), a 29-minute short narrated by Martin Sheen documenting a summer solstice event on the Scottish island of Jura, and the previously unreleased short Krash (1992), a record of the final and violent destruction of Ford Timelord.

23 Seconds to Eternity collects all of The KLF’s music videos produced under their evolving monikers: “Doctorin’ the Tardis” (1988) by the Timelords, “It’s Grim Up North” (1991) by the JAMs, and the rarely seen “Kylie Said to Jason” (1989), as well as international hits “3 A.M. Eternal”, “Last Train to Trancentral”, “What Time Is Love?”, and the single “Justified & Ancient” (1991), featuring lead vocals by the first lady of country, Miss Tammy Wynette.

Join us for the North American theatrical premiere of 23 Seconds to Eternity featuring a special live AV opening performance by Vancouver electronic experimentalists CHXMERAS.

CHXMERAS

CHXMERAS are an experimental electronic duo based in Vancouver and built on the transatlantic collaboration between musician Paul Finlay from North East England and nêhiyaw/Denesuline musician Jarrett Martineau from Treaty 6 territory in Canada. Together, the duo weave immersive, cinematic sounds — a genre-bending, otherworldly experience built on angular dub, deep ambient, experimental techno, mutating noise, and hip-hop rhythms. Using modular synths, drum machines, effects, field recordings, film samples, and live improvisation, CHXMERAS take listeners into a hallucinatory landscape where fractal paths, lost futures, and the disorienting present collide.
