Borders are the faultlines of the world. Kenya-Jade Pinto’s doc examines how modern surveillance technology, bio-metrics and AI are combining to make land and sea borders as impenetrable as air travel, and suggests that the unspoken cost is our own freedom and humanity. Pinto looks at how drones are patrolling everywhere from the Arizona desert to the Mediterranean sea; the deadly risks facing migrants, and the detention centres that increasingly look and feel like prisons. Meanwhile medical aid in Africa is being tied to biometric ID.
