Having made his Broadway debut at the tender age of four, Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya — known by the stage name “Farruquito” — went on to become the most celebrated flamenco dancer of his generation. Hailing from a long line of Romani dancers, musicians, and artists that include his grandfather Farruco (a legend in the world of flamenco), Farruquito’s continuation of the family legacy took a turn following a fatal hit and run and several years in prison. Now, Farruquito struggles to reconcile his past with responsibilities towards his family and community, especially as his son El Moreno works to follow in his footsteps.
Directors Santi Aguado and Reuban Atlas capture the graceful athleticism of flamenco performance while providing a window into the inner world of Farruquito and his family. Santi Aguado
Santi Aguado is an Emmy-nominated director and producer from Barcelona with a strong track record in documentary filmmaking and digital storytelling. For five years, Aguado served as Head of Video at VICE Spain, where he led the development of award-winning content. In recent years, he directed the docuseries Fast Forward for Rakuten TV and Lucia en la Telaraña II and Javier Fernández: Rompiendo el hielo for RTVE Play — the latter winning the Silver Dolphin at the 2023 Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards. In 2023, Aguado was appointed as the General Director of CAPA Spain.

Reuben Atlas
Reuben Atlas is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and former lawyer whose debut feature documentary, Brothers Hypnotic (2013), premiered at SXSW and was distributed internationally by Factory 25. He co-directed the Netflix film Sour Grapes (2016) and produced and co-directed Acorn and the Firestorm (2017), which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, was broadcast on PBS, and was distributed by First Run Features. His recent producing work includes the acclaimed Netflix basketball documentary series Bill Russell: Legend, the PBS immigration policy documentary Almost American (2024), and the Emmy-winning New York Times Op-Doc Atencion! Murderer Next Door (2020).
