After a lengthy absence, middle-aged Suna returns to her native Anatolian village to attend her nephew’s wedding, where she finds her family home severely damaged by the geological turbulence affecting the area. Cracks are also showing in her relationship with her brother, with the mystery of their sister’s disappearance still looming over a small community. Determined to get to the bottom of things once and for all, Suna must reckon with a complicated family dynamic and the archaic attitudes that made her seek out greener pastures in the first place.
Set against a backdrop of striking landscapes populated with majestic buffalo, in Hear the Yellow is ultimately a profoundly moving snapshot of life in rural Turkey, with all its contradictions, quirks, and shortcomings. Selva Erdener excels in her poised performance as a headstrong woman torn between family loyalty and her own principles, as does her scene-stealing feline companion, Leyla.

Banu Sıvacı
Banu Sıvacı was born in Adana in 1987. After graduating from the Department of Painting, she worked as an assistant director in feature films. Güvercin (The Pigeon), her first feature film as a director, had its world premiere in the Generation section of the 2018 Berlinale and was nominated for the GWFF Best First Feature Award. It went on to win five awards, including Best Film and Best Screenplay at the 33rd Valencia Film Festival, Best Director at the 22nd Sofia Film Festival, and Best Youth Film at the 2018 APSA Awards.
