Born in Karachi and raised between Canada and Pakistan, Toronto-based filmmaker Zarrar Kahn is a striking voice in contemporary cinema. His micro-budget debut feature, In Flames (2023), launched to critical acclaim at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, went on to become Pakistan’s official Oscar entry, won the John Dunning Award for Best First Feature, and screened at over 100 international festivals. An alumnus of the CFC Directors’ Lab, TIFF Talent Lab, and Locarno Filmmaker Lab, Kahn remains deeply embedded in the industry as a programmer and juror and has guest-lectured at TMU, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Davis.
