Mysticism and femininity circle a young woman’s desire to reclaim her history. She asks when she will fall in love, and the answer is elusive: she will have to wait until her world expands.
Occupation of the Inner Life is a meditation on painting, the passage of time, and human relationships. Palestinian painter and filmmaker Rosalind Nashashibi blurs the boundaries between the artist’s gaze and the subject’s perspective. A constellation of symbols trace a story of subjugation, displacement, and resistance within the natural world. The man depicted in a wedding-day watercolour is now elderly, displaced and alone in a London suburb. Here, occupation extends beyond physical violence and despair; it enters the inner life, leaving an entire people suspended between memory, loss, and longing.
